【谷保歩記】やほはやぼ？

はじめまして。谷保住民のライター、サミーです。
妖怪が当たり前に生息していそうな（褒め言葉）たたずまいに惹かれて、この夏引っ越してきました。
「谷保1年生」の目線で魅力をお伝えしていきたいと思っています。

国立の前身は「谷保村」「谷保郷」。
今では「やほ」と発音していますが、もともとは「やぼ」だったそうで、「やほ」と濁らず呼ぶようになったのは1929年の南武線開通以降のことだとか。
「”野暮”に通じるのを嫌って」濁点を取ったと言われていますが、そもそも「谷保」と「野暮」の関係性については決定的な文献が無いため、「特に無し」という事になっているようです。

あと3週間でいよいよ新年ですね。
